Three for Three at Road Atlanta on Kumho Tires

Mt. Juliet, TN. (August 11, 2008) - Wilson Racing, Inc. arrived at Road Atlanta in Braselton, GA this past Friday night for the NASA August 9 - 10 race weekend. Stan needed three race finishes in order to qualify for the NASA National Championship weekend at Mid-Ohio in September.

The Kumho Tires, NetEvidence, Pinnacle Steel, Lux Performance, Dodge Motorsports, Roe Racing, Wilson & Wilson CPA, number 92 Dodge Viper SRT-10 was entered in three races over the two days. Two ST2 (Super Touring 2) class races and one VVC (Viper Vette Challenge) race on Saturday. It was a busy weekend schedule in the hot Atlanta sun.

Danny Fox, owner of Alliance1, a logistics company, made the trip to Road Atlanta this weekend with the team. Danny had a great time at the track and learned more about the differences in NASA, SCCA, and other forms of sports car racing in the USA while enjoying the racing action. Additionally, John Mouvery and his father were pitted with Stan and the Wilson Racing team. John races a Ford Mustang Cobra in the American Iron class.

Saturday morning started with a 15 minute practice session for Stan and John. Qualifying for Saturday's races came later in the morning. Stan went out during the qualifying sessions and won the pole for the Viper Vette Challenge race in addition to qualifying 5th overall for the race group.

Stan won the Viper Vette Challenge class in the first race on Saturday finishing first in VVC and 2nd overall in the race group. The car came back in from the first race of the day and was immediately prepped for the second race coming up in the late afternoon. The No. 92 Dodge Viper was fueled and ready to go for the Super Touring 2 race at 4:40pm on Saturday.

The Super Touring 2 class had many Corvettes, a couple of AC Cobra cars, and two Panoz GT cars. It was the largest ST-2 field to date in the Southeast. The race started with a clean start and everyone was quickly moving for position as the faster cars started to catch the back of the race group consisting of the slower classed racing machines. The lap times were very similar and sometimes equal between the No. 92 Dodge Viper and the fastest Corvette in the ST2 class. Track position proved to be the difference that mattered in the late Saturday afternoon race. Going up the hill from turn one, the fastest Corvette ST2 car and Stan were side by side. The Corvette missed a shift and this allowed Stan to pull in front and start to pull away from the Corvette. As the laps passed, Stan worked slower traffic to his advantage. A couple of the moves put as many as four cars between Stan and the second place Corvette. This slowed the Corvette’s lap time and allowed Stan to easily win the second race of the day on Saturday. Stan finished first in the ST2 class and 3rd overall in the race group.

Saturday night was spent with sponsors and friends. A trip to Outback Steakhouse for the Outback special and lots of tea to drink. It was a fun time for all.

Sunday morning arrived and the entire team headed to Cracker Barrel for breakfast. We enjoyed a great breakfast and then headed for the track to prepare for qualifying and the race. Once at the track, everyone started drinking water and Powerade to make sure we stayed hydrated. Stan went out to qualify at 9:20am and won the pole for the ST2 class. After qualifying the car was prepped with alignment, fuel, cool shirt ice/water, and brake bleeding.

GREEN FLAG

Sunday's race was underway. It was scheduled to be 40 minutes. The high temperature and humidity caused several cars to slow due to overheating. However, the Kumho Tires, NetEvidence, Pinnacle Steel, Lux Performance, Dodge Motorsports, Roe Racing, Wilson & Wilson CPA, number 92 Dodge Viper SRT-10 had no issues with the large radiator and low RPM shift points. The No. 92 Dodge Viper ran cool and fast the entire race bringing home the second victory of the weekend in the ST2 class and a 4th place overall finish in the race group.

"We learned a lot this weekend. We had some brake fade and found the cause as well as some suspension tuning that will help us in the future. We just kept on putting down the same lap time lap after lap and brought the car home to the checkered flag. It was a ton of fun this weekend and a fantastic weekend for the entire team." said Wilson.

This Road Atlanta weekend concluded the regular season NASA race schedule in the Southeast. Stan and the Kumho Tires Dodge Viper SRT-10 are undefeated in the ST2 class. The next NASA event will be the NASA National Championship races at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course September 11-14, 2008.

The Kumho Tires, NetEvidence, Pinnacle Steel, Lux Performance, Dodge Motorsports, Roe Racing, Wilson & Wilson CPA, number 92 Dodge Viper SRT-10 hits the track again at Carolina Motorsports Park August 23-24, 2008 for the final regular season SCCA National Club Race. The CMP race will crown the Southeast National Champion in Touring 1. Stan and the second place driver are 1 point apart. Whoever wins the race at CMP in two weeks, wins the championship.
